Lower back pain is so common, that 80% of adults will experience it at some point in their life.
A study published in 2000 found that almost 50% adults in the UK reported experiencing lower back pain that year.
Back pain can begin as young as school age and according to some studies, is just as common in adolescents as it is in adults, increasing with age and worsening between 35-55 year age groups.
It is common now for many of us to spend hours on end in a sitting position, at a desk or computer, or other working environment and these are not ideal sitting positions, it's hardly surprising that your back pain may be caused by a muscular imbalance from slumping or a rigid posture.
Or perhaps from frequent bending from the waist instead of the hip joint. Other correlations with back pain have been identified and causes may include inactivity, injury, heavy physical work with frequent lifting, repetitive movements or static postures, frequent bending, twisting, pushing, pulling and vibrational impact, obesity, smoking, depression, anxiety, stress and other emotional factors.
People try various treatments for chronic back pain, such as massage, anti-inflammatory drugs and pain killers, chiropractic adjustments or surgery but may often find they still suffer and at a loss over where to turn next for help for their back pain.
